Today, we’re excited to announce the newest additions to our Velox MagSafe compatible series: the Velox Pro Wireless Dash and Windshield Mount with CryoFlow cooling technology and the Velox Mini Wireless Air Vent Mount.
KEY FEATURES OF THE VELOX PRO WIRELESS DASH & WINDSHIELD MOUNT
The standout feature of the Velox Pro is our patent-pending CryoFlow cooling technology. Designed to combat the issue of overheating, our CryoFlow system automatically turns on when your iPhone is connected, effectively drawing heat away from your iPhone and increasing charging speeds.
Here’s how it works:
As your phone charges and begins to generate heat, a semiconductor CryoChip draws that heat away from the phone and mounting face towards a magnesium heat sink, where it’s dispersed by a 9-blade polycarbonate fan that rotates at speeds of up to 6500 rpm.
The Velox Pro also includes all the features we love in the OG Velox dash mount including 7.5W wireless charging for your iPhone 12 or newer, powerful precision magnets, a streamlined telescopic arm, rotating ball joint, and reusable suction cup base, plus a new detachable USB-C cable and sleek glass mounting face.
KEY FEATURES OF THE VELOX MINI WIRELESS AIR VENT MOUNT
As its name suggests, the Velox Mini is our most compact wireless charging air vent mount yet.
It’s small, lightweight form factor makes it an ideal travel companion as it can be easily tucked away in a tote or backpack.
Like its predecessor, you still get 7.5W of wireless charging, powerful silicone prongs that securely attach to most vehicle air vent blades, and a versatile ball joint that tilts, swivels, and rotates so you can adjust the cradle to find the perfect angle.
What’s new is a built-in ventilation system that helps to dissipate heat and – perhaps most exciting of all – a brand new color option! In addition to coming in midnight blue, the Velox Mini is also available in astral gray.
WHY WE CREATED THE VELOX PRO
As with all iOttie products, when we set out to expand the Velox series and provide an upgraded version of our wireless dash mount, we first turned towards our customer reviews to gain insight into what was working and what could be improved upon.
Some of the concerns involved small adjustments that were straightforward. For example, with the Velox Pro, we made the USB-C cable detachable from the mount, so users can now easily stow the cable away when not in use.
Other problems required more creative thinking. The one thing in particular that we kept seeing when it comes to dash mounts in general, is the issue of overheating.
When any phone is charging or working hard (for example when using a navigation app), heat is generated. If things start to get too hot, your phone will reduce the charging speed in order to protect the battery. This issue is exacerbated when charging your phone in a vehicle where the sun creates even more heat, especially for car mounts that are positioned on dashboards and windshields.
We asked ourselves, what if there was a dash mount that could draw heat away from the phone and actively cool the surface? Not only would this prevent the phone from overheating, but it would also increase charging speeds.
And that’s when inspiration struck.
WHY WE CREATED THE VELOX MINI
When we set out to expand our wireless air vent mount options, we also took a customer-first approach. Our goal was to make our MagSafe offerings accessible to even more people, while still maintaining the premium look our Velox series is known for.
Key areas we wanted to improve upon included a smaller, more eco-friendly footprint, good airflow to reduce the effects of overheating, and a more friendly price-point for customers.
DESIGN INSPIRATION FOR THE VELOX PRO & VELOX MINI
At iOttie, our design philosophy is to find meaningful ways to incorporate the latest technology into products that not only make our customers’ lives easier, but also elevate design.
“For the Velox Pro, the intention was to highlight the powerful technology built into the mount,” said Jeremy Frank, our industrial design manager. “So the jet engine design was decided on to draw attention to the back while also inspiring the location of our signature gold accent ring.”
The form of the mounting cradle was also “dictated by the high quality glass face we used. In order to properly create the product around it, we needed to use quite a sharp cradle.”
When it came to the Velox Mini, we wanted to carry through this same minimalistic design language with straight lines and sharper edges.
“For the Velox Mini Wireless we were looking to make the lowest profile design we could fit the MagSafe technology into while implementing the new sharp cornered design aesthetic into the vent design structure,” said Jeremy.
“The vent holes were meant to relay that there is some technology inside as well as provide passive cooling. Meanwhile the product texture adds a matte finish which is soft to the touch.”
In the end, we were pretty happy with the final design, and it seems we’re not the only ones: The Velox Mini was just awarded a 2023 Red Dot Award for Product Design!
