November is a time all about giving back to the community. Here at iOttie, we believe in giving back all year long. That’s why for over nine years, we’ve partnered with Give Chances, a nonprofit organization committed to reducing the income achievement gap.

WHO IS GIVE CHANCES?
Founded in 2015, Give Chances is a non-profit organization based in New Jersey dedicated to providing learning enrichment opportunities to children living in underserved communities. Their mission is to close the income achievement gap and help students across the nation realize their dreams.
WHAT IS THE INCOME ACHIEVEMENT GAP?
Children from low-income households typically enter school behind their more affluent peers, and never catch up. This phenomenon is referred to as the income achievement gap.
Here in the US, we have one of the highest levels of income inequality. In fact, according to recent statistics, one in five children in the US live in poverty. By age eleven these students lag behind their peers by more than eight months in reading, writing, and math.
Current estimates suggest that it would take more than sixty years to close the income achievement gap as it now stands. And that’s where Give Chances comes in.
HOW GIVE CHANCES IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Give Chances offers in-person and online afterschool programs designed to confront the academic achievement gap by providing a nurturing environment where under-served students can improve their academic performance, grow their unique talents, and gain self-confidence.
These programs are open to students in grades one through eight and include homework assistance, one-on-one tutoring, and extracurricular activities where students can foster their individual interests.
To date, Give Chances has served hundreds of students across the US and continues to increase their efforts by opening new learning centers and expanding their online offerings.
